Questions we get every week

Sizes, thickness, grades, freight, minimums and payment — the things buyers ask before they commit, answered without the sales voice.

Is Kota stone good for a kitchen floor?

Yes, with a sealer. It is a limestone, so acid marks it — lemon, vinegar, tamarind, some cleaners. Seal it on installation, re-seal every couple of years and wipe spills. A honed finish hides marks far better than a polished one, and river wash better still where the floor gets wet.

How thick should the stone be?

15–20 mm for an upper-floor interior on a screed, 20–25 mm for ground-floor interiors, 30–40 mm for driveways and courtyards, and 40–60 mm where vehicles run over it. Going thicker costs more in freight than it does in stone.

What is the difference between calibrated and non-calibrated?

Calibrated stone is machine-ground to an even thickness, so the bed depth stays constant and the tiler lays faster with less packing. Non-calibrated is cheaper per square foot and more expensive to lay. On a large floor, or over an adhesive bed, calibrated is the cheaper answer overall.

Can an old Kota floor be brought back?

Almost always. That is Kota's real advantage over tile — grinding and re-polishing in place takes a worn floor back to new, and you can do it more than once over the life of a building.

What is your minimum order?

For a delivered rate to make sense you want a full truck, roughly 20–30 tonnes, which is about 3,000–5,000 sq ft at 25 mm. Below that we consolidate with another load on the same route, or you collect ex-yard at Ramganj Mandi.

Do you send samples?

Yes. Ask in the enquiry and we courier physical pieces. Where tone is critical across a large floor we will send a full slab rather than a chip — no photograph renders stone honestly.

How is the rate quoted — ex-yard or delivered?

Both, as two separate numbers, so you can see exactly what the freight costs and decide whether to arrange your own transport.

Do you cut to size?

Yes — treads, risers, sills, copings, counters with cut-outs, and cladding with pre-drilled anchor slots. Send the drawing with your enquiry and we price the labour separately from the stone.

How much wastage should I allow?

5% over the measured area on a plain floor, 8–10% where there are diagonal cuts, borders or a lot of small rooms, and 10–12% on riven or random material. Stone bought later rarely matches the first lot.

Do you export?

Yes. We crate, palletise and stuff containers at the yard for sea freight out of Mundra and Kandla, and photograph the load before it is sealed.

Which stone is best for a driveway?

Ratya or natural-face Kota at 40–60 mm, laid on a well-compacted base. Thickness is what carries the load — going thinner to save on stone is the most expensive mistake on a driveway.

What payment terms do you work on?

Terms are agreed per order and depend on quantity, whether it is cut-to-size and where it ships. Ask when you enquire and we will set them out with the quotation.

Still deciding?

Ask us the awkward question.

If the answer is that a cheaper stone or another supplier suits your job better, we will say so. That costs us one order and saves you a floor.
