Mandana sandstone
Mandana stone
Deep red-brown sandstone, semi polished and diamond cut.
What it is
The red sandstone quarried up the road.
Mandana is the red sandstone from the belt around Mandana, in the same Ramganj Mandi tehsil our unit sits in. It is a dense, hard-wearing sandstone that runs from a dusty rose through to a deep chocolate red, and it darkens and richens when it is wet.
Semi polished is the outdoor specification: flat and even, with the colour brought up but the surface still matt enough to walk on when it is wet. Diamond cut edges mean the pieces lay to a tight joint without dressing on site. For a mirror face indoors, see Mandana high polish.
Where it belongs
The jobs this one is for.

- Garden paths and drives, laid with an open pebble joint or tight
- Driveways, parking and paths, where the traffic is hard
- Courtyards, verandahs and garden paving
- Elevations and cladding, where a warm stone is wanted
- Temple, heritage and landscape work
Worth knowing
Colour varies between beds more than Kota does — a red lot and a chocolate lot are both Mandana. Order a whole area in one lot, and work from a physical piece.
